The Ekiti State House of Assembly Speaker has advised Legislative Officers and Committee Clerks in the assembly to maximize opportunities to sharpen their skills towards more efficient service delivery.
Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye stated this in Ado Ekiti on Thursday at the venue of a two-day training workshop organized for the Legislative Officers and Committee Clerks on the fundamentals of speech writing and effective communication.
Declaring the event open, the Speaker linked the purpose of the training, funded by the House, to the need to put officers on their toes and broaden their knowledge for present and future responsibilities.
Aribasoye, represented by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Bolaji Olagbaju, identified training as a means by which organizations can improve employees' efficiency, effectiveness, team spirit, time management, and good working relationships.
The Speaker reiterated the commitment of the Seventh Assembly to staff welfare and relevant training on the job, adding that, in recent times, training and retraining of staff under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Aribasoye and other lawmakers have received improved attention.
She called on the participants to see the training as an avenue to learn and ensure they internalize the gains of the teachings, hoping that they would emerge with new skills to enhance proper reports of all activities of the House for efficient service delivery in the legislative service.
Speaking at the event, the lawmaker representing Ekiti West Constituency 2 and the Chairman of the House Services Committee, Hon. Johnson Bode-Adeoye, commended the Speaker and other members of the Assembly on the training initiative, as he applauded the Clerk of the House for her commitment, dedication, and diligence in prioritizing staff welfare in the area of capacity building.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the House of Assembly Service Commission, Hon. Kayode Fasakin, who was represented by the Commissioner in charge of Training and Manpower Development, Mrs. Fola Richie-Adewusi, thanked the leadership of the Seventh Assembly for being keenly interested in knowledge empowerment for staff.
Earlier, in her welcome address, the Clerk of the House, Mrs. Titilope Agbede, appreciated the Speaker for his staff development vision, assuring of the readiness of the workers to acquire knowledge through the facilitated avenues.
Delivering the first lecture on crafting impactful speeches, the former Clerk of the Ogun State Assembly, Bar. Adedeji Adeyemo, enjoined the trainees to always pay keen attention to details, stressing the need for them to consistently work towards the objectives of their committee chairmen.
He described legislative officers and Committee Clerks as the institution's memory and think tanks for the lawmakers, adding that their communication should be clear, concise, and meaningful.
In his presentation, another resource person and former Clerk of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rev. Akintunde Famoyegun, took the participants through mastering legislative committee reports, charging them to be proactive and versatile.
Building staff capacity has been a key part of the legislative agenda drawn by the Aribasoye-led 7th Assembly, and this training leads in the various series structured for different departments in the state assembly.
